Jason Donovan on the cover of The Age’s Spectrum

Jason Donovan is on the cover of Spectrum in The Saturday Age (3 October). In a candid interview with Elizabeth Flux, he talks about taking on Randle McMurphy, a role he calls “a monster”, and why coming home to Melbourne for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest now means something very different.

Jason’s father, actor Terence Donovan, died in July at the age of 90. Terence played the Athenaeum himself, in Breaker Morant in 1978, and Jason says there is a lot of him in the character: “There’s parts of my dad in this character … the craziness of this guy … he was feisty, strong [and] had a sort of controlled madness about him. He embraced life.”
